Swift Newspapers signs contract for 15 additional Publicus Web sites
Group expands use of SAXoTECH's Internet production system
ROCKVILLE, MD - SAXoTECH, a leading supplier of content management and online production systems for media companies in Scandinavia and North America, announces that Swift Newspapers, Inc. has signed two separate contracts that dramatically expands their use of the Publicus Online Publishing System.
Swift publishes community newspaper Web sites for many of its 28 print publications. In addition, it has also launched special interest visitor Web sites in many resort communities where it has publications, including, Lake Tahoe, CA; Reno, NV; and Aspen, CO.
Under a previous agreement signed late last year, Swift had contracted with SAXoTECH to create the new Reno.com and Tahoe.com Web sites using SAXoTECH's Internet technology. Both of those sites were successfully launched in 2001.
Publicus will be used to expand and enhance Swift's online presence, according to Richard Bremenour, Technical Services Director for Swift Newspapers. "The product was chosen because it offers an easy way to incorporate a wide range of functions into customized Web sites. Publicus also facilitates the management and migration of editorial content between print and online media," said Bremenour.
The two new contracts with Swift will allow the company to convert 15 more of their World Wide Web sites to Publicus, with an option to add more URLs at any time.
"Our department was tasked with providing a common Web development environment and online content management solution for all of Swift Newspaper's Internet initiatives, which include 16 community newspaper Web sites and three major visitor information portals, Reno.com, Tahoe.com and AspenAlive.com," said Jason Aloia, Internet Director at Swift. "Publicus is a competitively priced, managed online publishing solution that meets all of our needs. The Publicus system is comprehensive and flexible enough to support our visitor information portals, yet simple enough to quickly deploy an end-to-end Web publishing and content management solution for our many newspapers."
The Swift contract includes the Publicus Base System, as well as the following Add-On Modules:
Publicus Query Module (polling and competitions)
Publicus Agenda Module (calendar of events)
Publicus Classifieds (searchable text-based advertising)
Publicus Multi-Channel Module (wireless, handheld, email publishing)
Publicus Newsgroups Module (threaded discussion groups)
Publicus Guides Module (entertainment and business directories)
"After careful work with SAXoTECH creating their first destination portals, the Swift Corporation has decided to further expand our relationship to add another tourism portal and 14 newspaper Web sites to their Publicus installation," said Lou Fifer, VP of Customer Fulfillment at SAXoTECH. "We are very pleased to expand our business with Swift, and we look forward to many years of mutually beneficial productivity enhancements and system integration support with the Swift groups."
In addition the contract includes training, consulting services, support, and software maintenance. SAXoTECH will continue to host and manage all of the Swift Publicus Web sites at the company's datacenter in northern Virginia.
The implementation process will begin immediately.
