SAXoTECH Signs New York Times Regional Newspaper Group
Group to Use Publicus Online Publishing System To Publish 13 Newspaper Web Sites

SAXoTECH, a leading supplier of content management and online production systems for media companies in Scandinavia and North America, today announced that The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group (NYTRNG), a division of The New York Times Company, has purchased its Publicus Online Publishing System to produce the Web sites for 13 of its daily newspapers. Implementation of the system will begin this month.

"This contract with The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group confirms SAXoTECH's ability to provide real solutions to the challenges facing media companies today," said Anders Christiansen, chief operating officer of SAXoTECH. "This agreement, our largest to date in North America, significantly strengthens our position in the United States."

"The Publicis system will support our efforts to centralize Web site production and system management with one hosting provider," said Bruce Kyse, vice president of News and New Media for NYTRNG. "By using a single content management solution for our daily newspaper Web sites we will realize cost savings and other efficiencies in Web site production and maintenance."

Publicus will be used to publish the Web sites of the following 13 daily newspapers:

  • TimesDaily (Florence, AL),
  • The Gadsden Times (Gadsden, AL),
  • The Tuscaloosa News (Tuscaloosa, AL),
  • The Gainesville Sun (Gainesville, FL),
  • The Ledger (Lakeland, FL),
  • Star-Banner (Ocala, FL),
  • Sarasota Herald-Tribune (Sarasota, FL),
  • The Daily Comet (Thibodaux, LA),
  • The Courier (Houma, LA),
  • Times-News (Hendersonville, NC),
  • The Dispatch (Lexington, NC),
  • Wilmington Morning Star (Wilmington, NC),
  • Herald-Journal (Spartanburg, SC),

The NYTRNG contract includes the Publicus Base System, as well as the following add-on modules:

  • Publicus Forums Module for threaded discussion groups
  • Publicus Guides Module for entertainment and business directories
  • Publicus E-Commerce Module for online sales
  • Publicus Multimedia Module for audio and video publishing

Publicus will be integrated with the various existing editorial and advertising front-end systems in use by the 13 papers, including systems from Unisys, Atex, SII, DTI and Baseview. The NYTRNG contract also includes training, consulting services, support, and software maintenance.
