SAXoTECH partners with Applied Semantics to further automate Publicus
SAXoTECH will resell Applied Semantics News Series to deliver advanced content processing capabilities to newspapers

Applied Semantics, Inc., a leading software tools and applications provider for unstructured data management, and SAXoTECH, an international provider of cross-media editorial solutions for newspapers, magazines, and web sites, today entered into an agreement whereby SAXoTECH will resell Applied Semantics News Series to customers of their online publishing system, Publicus.

Integrating Applied Semantics News Series into Publicus provides SAXoTECH customers access to powerful content categorization, summarization, and concept tagging capabilities that streamline newswire, editorial, archiving, and syndication processes.

Furthermore, Applied Semantics News Series comes bundled with the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) Subject Codes, a 900+ node taxonomy that is an industry standard for categorizing news articles.

SAXoTECH's Publicus is a complete online publishing solution that gives newspaper and magazine publishers all the tools necessary to create profitable interactive online publications. Some current customers of Publicus include The Blade (Toledo, OH), The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group, and (New Brunswick, Canada).

"We selected Applied Semantics News Series as the categorization platform for the Publicus system because its robust capabilities provide the most accurate and consistent metadata results to complement our online publishing system," said Mark Prokosch, president of SAXoTECH. "News Series meets the demanding needs of our clients for an elegant content processing solution that integrates easily into the Publicus workflow while providing a high level of flexibility through an XML-enabled, ASP-based configuration."

The Concord Monitor, New Hampshire's capital city newspaper, is the first customer to choose the joint offering by SAXoTECH and Applied Semantics. They opted for the Applied Semantics News Series to assist them in categorizing content on their online site and into their archive for better overall search and retrieval.

"The SAXoTECH solution, in conjunction with Applied Semantics' categorization module, provides the most intelligent, automated system to quickly create, update and publish our content to the Web," said Geordie Wilson, director of business planning for Newspapers of New England, which owns the Concord Monitor. "By automating the categorization process, this combined solution speeds our production and makes it possible for us to offer our readers the most relevant and useful information."

"We are delighted with our partnership with SAXoTECH," said Jordan Libit, Applied Semantics' president and CEO. "The fusion of Publicus, a robust database-driven online content management system, with Applied Semantics' intelligent news processing tools, creates an ideal end-to-end solution not previously available in the marketplace. Rapid customer wins like the Concord Monitor endorse its rich business benefits and unique value."

The SAXoTECH Publicus / Applied Semantics solution is available immediately, through the SAXoTECH sales force.
