Concord Monitor buys Publicus
SAXoTECH, a leading supplier of content management and online production systems for media companies, announces that the Concord Monitor (Concord, N.H.), has purchased the Publicus Online Publishing System to produce its World Wide Web site.
"SAXoTECH gets it -- they know newspapers, and they know Web publishing," said Peter "Deac" Bakke, Online Manager for the Concord Monitor. "With the Publicus system, we can offer the rich news experience our readers expect and the services our advertisers demand -- without adding to production expense. Over time, with SAXoTECH's modular pricing structure, we can add new features to the site as our traffic and revenue grow."
The Concord Monitor joins a growing list of newspapers that have chosen the Publicus Web content management system to help it improve its online user experience, sell content online and improve content flow from their editorial system to the Web. The Concord Monitor will use Publicus to publish Concord Monitor Online (http://www.concordmonitor.com) and New Hampshire Primary Monitor (http://www.primarymonitor.com).
The Concord Monitor contract includes the Publicus Base System, as well as the following add-on modules:
- Agenda Module: For creating a searchable online community calendar
- Multi-Channel Module: For delivering content via email newsletters and to handheld computers
- Guides Module: For developing online travel and business directories
- E-Commerce Module: For selling online subscriptions and access to the paper's archives
- Taxonomy Module: For organizing the site's content according to a hierarchical set of keywords
The Monitor will organize and tag all of its content according to a keyword taxonomy. This will enable the newspaper to easily give contextual meaning to all its content and publish that information in a more flexible manner. The Monitor will use Applied Semantics' Auto-Categorizer system to automatically add taxonomy data to all online content in real-time. The Monitor will be the first newspaper to integrate the Applied Semantics solution with the Publicus system.
Publicus will also be integrated with the Monitor's Teambase editorial front-end system from Agile Enterprise.
"The Concord Monitor is one of the leaders in the mid-market newspaper space," said Philip W. Calvert, Ph.D., sales executive at SAXoTECH, Inc. "They are consistently on the cutting edge of advanced technologies. We are proud to have them as a customer and are excited that they will be the first customer to integrate their new Publicus site with the Applied Semantics solution."
The contract also includes training, consulting services, support and software maintenance. SAXoTECH will host and manage all of the Concord Monitor's Publicus Web sites at the company's datacenter in northern Virginia.
The implementation process will begin immediately. The Web site is expected to launch in February 2003.
