Foster’s Daily Democrat signs contract to install Publicus Online Publishing System
SAXoTECH, a recognized leader in providing content management and online production systems for media companies, is pleased to announce that Foster’s Daily Democrat (Dover, N.H.) has signed a contract to install and use SAXoTECH’s Publicus Online Publishing System for the daily production of their news Web site.
Foster’s joins a growing list of newspapers that have chosen the Publicus Web content management system to help it improve its online user experience, sell content online and improve content flow from their editorial system to the Web. Foster’s will use Publicus to produce www.fosters.com. Their implementation project has already begun.
“After several of months of mapping the future of our Web products, only one system met all our requirements – Publicus,” said Phil Kincade, Foster’s Director of New Media. “We are excited not just for what Publicus can do for us now, but what it will do for us for many years to come.”
“Foster’s is known nationally as a cutting-edge, family-owned newspaper,” said Mark G. Prokosch, President of SAXoTECH, Inc. “As a benchmark in the industry, they are a wonderful customer to have on board, and we look forward to helping them achieve their online revenue goals and content strategy.”
The contract with Foster’s includes the Publicus Base System and the following Add-On Modules:
- Subscriber Module: Used to restrict access to content, based on user registration or paid subscriptions (will be integrated with Clickshare financial transaction processing system from Clickshare Service Corporation)
- Agenda Module: For creating a searchable online community calendar
- Weather and Wire Service Integration: Used to automatically publish a data feed from syndicated weather and wire news providers
Publicus will be integrated with Foster’s OpenPages front-end pagination system, as well as the transaction and billing services from Clickshare.
“The built-in registration system of Publicus will integrate seamlessly with their Clickshare transaction system to allow Foster’s to offer paid online-only subscriptions, as well as provide free access to the site for their print subscribers,” said Prokosch.
The contract also includes training, consulting services, support and software maintenance. SAXoTECH will host and manage Foster’s Publicus Web site at the SAXoTECH datacenter in northern Virginia.
Foster’s Daily Democrat, owned and operated by the Foster family since the newspaper’s inception on June 18, 1873, is unique in today’s publishing world; ownership is by direct generations of the Foster family, no other daily newspaper in the United States has the family name in the front-page banner and few, if any, small daily newspapers make the commitment to local news as does Foster’s. With a circulation of 30,000 copies on Sunday, Foster’s Daily Democrat is the local newspaper of Dover, N.H. The Foster’s family also owns the Citizen (circulation of 9,000 daily), which is published in Laconia, N.H.
