Butler, PA, daily to install Publicus
Web site will offer local content on a paid subscription basis
SAXoTECH, a recognized leader in providing content management and online production systems for media companies, is pleased to announce that the Eagle Printing Co., owner of the Butler Eagle (Butler, PA), has purchased the Publicus Online Publishing System to produce its World Wide Web site.
"We are looking to expand our existing site to include the entire news product on a paid subscription basis," said Tammy Schuey, Online Manager for the Butler Eagle. "We selected Publicus for its flexibility, which enables us to only purchase the modules that we need today, but then add on as we need to in the future."
The Butler Eagle joins a growing list of newspapers that have chosen the Publicus Web content management system to help it improve its online user experience, sell content online and improve content flow from their editorial system to the Web. The Butler Eagle will use Publicus to publish their news Web site (http://www.butlereagle.com).
The Butler Eagle contract includes the Publicus Base System, as well as the following add-on modules:
- Display Ad Inserts Module: Automates the process of moving and presenting print display advertising online
- Registration Module: Captures registration
information and provides a way to restrict access to content based on registration or subscriptions
- Banner Ad Module: Manages the rotation and tracking of online banner advertising, including rich media ads
- Query Module: Allows newsroom
editors to easily create and manage online polls, contests, and questionnaires
- Calendar Module: For creating and managing a searchable online community calendar
In addition, the Butler Eagle's Publicus Web site will include integration to a credit card transaction processor for selling access to their content online.
Publicus will also be integrated with the Butler Eagle's CNI Open editorial front-end system.
"The Butler Eagle is a great local newspaper with a long history of serving its community through excellence in journalism," said Mark Prokosch, President of SAXoTECH, Inc. "By choosing Publicus, they are taking the next step in providing their first-class content electronically. Their vision for their future Web site is outstanding, and we are looking forward to the many ways they will use Publicus."
The contract includes training, consulting services, support and software maintenance. SAXoTECH will host and manage the Butler Eagle's Publicus Web site at the company's datacenter in northern Virginia.
The implementation process will begin immediately. The Web site is expected to launch in October 2003.
