SAXOTECH Congratulates The Day for Earning NENPA Honors for Digital Strategy and Website Design/Engagement Excellence

Tampa, Fla. – February 15, 2013 – SAXOTECH is proud to salute long-time customer The Day as an award winner in the 2012 New England Better Newspaper Competition. The New London, CT, newspaper earned top honors for its digital strategy excellence, as well as high honors for its website design, interactivity and reader engagement.

The awards are especially significant as today’s leading print publishers continue to develop their digital strategies and shift their design attention to websites and digital applications.

The Day has used SAXOTECH Online since 2009 for its front-end digital delivery system, which helps its newspaper staff efficiently produce content for multiple channels across more market segments. Most recently, the newspaper is an early adopter of Connect, SAXOTECH’s new audience engagement engine.

This year’s competition, held annually by the New England Newspaper & Press Association (NENPA), drew 3,000 entries, which were evaluated by a distinguished panel of about 40 judges. NENPA announced the winners February 12.

The Day took first place for digital strategy for newspapers up to 30,000 circulation throughout New England. The judges highlighted its use of channels beyond print for increased customer acquisition and retention, saying it is “a smart strategy done right.”

The Day also took third-place finishes in website design and in website interactivity and engagement, going up against such top finishers as The Boston Globe. “Clearly a lot of effort has gone into trying to engage readers,” judges said.
