Fifth Scripps Site Goes Live on SAXOTECH Publishing Platform Print E-mail
July 23, 2007

The Abilene Reporter-News went live with its SAXOTECH Editorial system Sunday night (July 22). This marks the fifth daily to go-live on SAXOTECH. Others are Ventura County (CA) Star, Caller-Times (Corpus Christi, TX), Evansville (IN) Courier & Press, and The Sun (Bremerton, WA).

There was a single go-live for the entire newsroom of about 35 people in this west Texas town of about 115,000.

The SuperUser group of Barton Cromeens (he was named editor of the paper on July 20), Sarah Kleiner, Sarah Carson, Larry Zelinski and Brandon McAuliffe provided solid support for their end-users and they encountered few serious challenges. Brandon's dad even provided some barbeque ribs in the afternoon!

Assistant city editor Patti Steele whispered to me part way into the evening, "I think everyone is a little tense." Then she added, "But I'm having a lot of fun. This is great." She also praised the training and said the system is so much better than anything else she has used.
