Our Changing World: Veteran Reporter Comments on SAXOTECH Go-live Print E-mail

October 23, 2008

Veteran reporter Judith McGinnis , writing for E.W. Scripps' Times Record News in Wichita Falls, Tex., today reflected on her recent transition to Saxotech's channel agnostic CMS platform. The Times Record News is the latest Scripps site to go live on our platform, providing a single point of content creation and management for print and web publishing.

Here's an outtake. Or read her column in its entirety here.

Our changing world
New technology in tune with readers evolving expectations

Today is a day of triumph in my middle-aged world.

This column represents the successful completion of my first three days on Saxotech, our new front-end computer system, a package of programs that will allow us to more easily and efficiently put both the physical and Internet versions of the paper together each day.

No, the words front-end system were not part of my vocabulary prior to this change. I count myself blessed to have such a tiny, manageable role in a process thats giving page designers and editors fits as they tweak the system on an hourly basis and transfer old school content to the new system.

They spent weeks in training; I got a brief but informative run through in less than an hour.

Like newspapers all over the country, we here a the Times Record News are in an adapt-and-survive environment. The future of our product increasingly seems to be on the Internet (currently the number of registered online TRN readers has surpassed our subscriber count) but daily, paper-and-ink readers are still our bread and butter.
