Paddock’s Daily Herald to Implement Online Publishing Platform with Enterprise-class Editorial System to Streamline News to Print and Web Channels

Tampa, Fla. – April 11, 2007 – SAXOTECH today announced that the Daily Herald (suburban Chicago), a Paddock Publications newspaper, will implement its print and online publishing solutions, giving the media company increased efficiencies and greater flexibility to its publishing process.

The Daily Herald will implement SAXOTECH Online™ first, with a 300-seat Editorial solution to follow. The daily paper chose SAXOTECH for the benefits and efficiencies of a standard platform while still having the ability to customize the solution to fit specific business demands.

With SAXOTECH’s complete multi-function publishing platform, the Daily Herald will be able to produce content across many mediums, and with one integrated solution will also reduce the complexity of piecing together and bridging a wide variety of vendor solutions.

"After a thorough study involving a dozen news and operational experts within the company, we selected SAXOTECH for several reasons,” said Barbara Jenkins, assistant vice president and director of quality for the Daily Herald. “We feel SAXOTECH, in contrast to the competition, has the most advanced functionality that compliments our business strategies for Web/online and print publications. Also, its integration with FAST Search and Transfer’s technology, Tansa’s proofing system, and other enhanced tools allow our talented news staff to focus on their craft and struggle less with the mechanics of the job. Perhaps the most important aspect of our choice was that by closely questioning their customers, we believe that SAXOTECH not only can do what they say but strive to do what was thought impossible yesterday."

With more than 1,300 square miles of coverage, including 100 communities and 27 advertising and content editioning zones, the Daily Herald is one of the most complex newspapers in the industry. The Daily Herald sets the standard for localized and personalized print and online news and information.

The SAXOTECH solution provides a better user experience via two distinct content classes – News Publishing and Community Publishing:
• With a robust online news publishing platform for creating and editing stories, readers will have more visibility into their preferred channels.
• Community publishing will allow readers to interact with content by providing tools such as Forums, Polls and Events – functionality that typically results in longer site visits and increased page views.

SAXOTECH Online in combination with SAXOTECH Editorial™ will provide the Daily Herald with a full-feature workflow production system able to effectively manage the planning, development, editing and production of the company’s print and online products.

With SAXOTECH Editorial, everything is in one place. The solution offers significant advancements in workflow production. Layout tools allow designers and editors to create stories from the page as well as give journalists the ability to write-to-fit. Advanced template tools allow quick creation of entire pages or sections of pages.

The Daily Herald has also invested in SAXOTECH’s centralized utility hosting infrastructure to power its Web site, ensuring uninterrupted access to local news that is published by its editorial staff. By migrating to a fully managed Web services platform, the Daily Herald can provide its growing audience of online news consumers with best of class web site response time, enhanced functionality and an improved audience user experience.
