Former Knight Ridder Daily Newspaper Plans Rapid Migration to New Platform, Enhancing Online Product Offerings to Engage Community
Tampa, Fla. – December 11, 2006 – SAXOTECH today announced that the Aberdeen (S.D.) American News will implement the SAXOTECH OnlineTM Web publishing system to help improve its online user experience, sell content online and improve content flow from its editorial system to the Web.

SAXOTECH Online will provide the South Dakota daily newspaper with a single online publishing platform that efficiently integrates directly into the paper’s existing systems and workflow, enabling the editorial operations to deliver timely news to its rapidly growing online audience. Content will flow seamlessly and instantly from the newsroom to the newspaper’s Web site.

“We’re excited by the opportunities that the SAXOTECH Online solution provides us,” said Jerome Ferson, president and publisher of the American News. “We reviewed a number of vendors and SAXOTECH quickly rose to the top of our list. They understand the demands of daily newspapering in an electronic age. They demonstrate this understanding through their product offerings.”

With SAXOTECH’s recent integration of Omniture SiteCatalyst, American News will also gain access to the most advanced Web analytics tool to provide real-time interactive reporting. The solution will enable American News to have ready-to-use reports that deliver the critical insight needed for improving online success.

American News has invested in SAXOTECH’s centralized utility hosting infrastructure to power its Web site, ensuring uninterrupted access to local news that is published by its editorial staff. By migrating to a fully managed Web services platform, American News can provide its growing audience of online news consumers with better user experiences now and for years to come.

Schurz Communications, Inc. acquired the American News – a former Knight Ridder property – from McClatchy Co. earlier this year.
