Republican-American to install editorial print production system this spring
SAXOTECH, a recognized leader in providing content management and online production systems for media companies, is pleased to announce that the Republican-American of Waterbury, Conn., has chosen to install SAXOTECH’s suite of editorial print publishing tools.

The Republican-American is the fourth daily newspaper to purchase SAXoPRESS (Ed. note - currently called SAXOTECH Editorial) in the last three months. The 82-seat SAXoPRESS system replaces an OpenPages content management system installed in 1996.

“The Republican-American zones its content heavily, making over the front section and local pages among four different editions and our Rep-Am.com site,” Systems Editor Howard Fielding said. “SAXOTECH worked with us to develop a content-driven solution that meets our needs, from story idea to finished product. We were particularly impressed by the Tansa Text Proofing System and the ability to integrate planning, production and archiving seamlessly under one solution.”

The Republican-American will install the SAXoPRESS Publishing System, integrated with the QuarkXPress page layout application and the QuarkCopyDesk SE text editor.

In addition to the base SAXoPRESS system, the Republican-American purchased:

  • Zoning: Copy editing and pagination tools designed to speed the process of producing zoned editorial pages on deadline with a minimum amount of repetitive labor
  • Planning Component: Newsroom planning and budgeting tools, as well as a repository for group calendars, contacts, and story ideas
  • SAXOTECH Archive: A complete solution for long-term storage of all of the paper’s published text, images and pages in one central, indexed repository
  • Tansa Text Proofing System: A client/server text proofing solution that will locate errors in spelling, grammar, style and hyphenation

“We are excited to be working with the people in Waterbury,” said Mark Prokosch, President of SAXOTECH, Inc. “Their unique zoning requirements and their high daily page count make this a very good showcase for the productivity tools in our system.”

The Republican-American’s SAXoPRESS system will be integrated with Managing Editor’s ad layout system. The Republican-American will run SAXoPRESS on Windows XP.

The system implementation will begin in February and is expected be completed in May 2004.
