Publicus system will power all of the media giant’s daily newspaper sites
SAXOTECH, a recognized leader in the development of cross-media news publishing solutions, is pleased to announce that Gannett Co., Inc., (NYSE: GCI) has signed a long-term contract that makes the Publicus Online Publishing System (Ed. note - currently called SAXOTECH Online) the content management solution for its local or regional daily newspaper Web sites.

Gannett will use Publicus to standardize and centralize its Web site operations.

"SAXOTECH’s solution for online newspapers has been proven under real-world use," said Jack Williams, Senior Vice President/Diversified Business and Development at Gannett. "We evaluated all of the available options based on several criteria, including time to market, total cost of ownership and integration capability. SAXOTECH’s content management system was the one that stood out, and best met our needs. We are confident that SAXOTECH will be a solid long-term partner."

Gannett joins a growing list of media companies worldwide that have chosen Publicus to help them automate their New Media publishing efforts, improve their Web users’ experience, as well as significantly expand their online revenue options.

Gannett will begin the deployment of the Publicus system immediately.

"This is a very big win for us, and it validates what we’ve been saying — that Publicus offers media companies a uniquely valuable Web publishing solution,” said Mark Prokosch, President of SAXOTECH, Inc. "Gannett spent the last 24 months looking at all of the content management system vendors and evaluating all of their options. At the end of that process, SAXOTECH had the only solution that could satisfy all of their requirements."

As part of the contract, SAXOTECH has integrated industry-leading iCPS (from Publishing Connections Inc.), as the QuarkXPress-to-XML conversion tool. This software will transform Gannett’s editorial content and allow it to be automatically ingested into Publicus.

The SAXOTECH contract includes training, consulting services, support and software maintenance. Gannett’s Web sites will be hosted and managed by Gannett Media Technologies International (GMTI), a subsidiary of Gannett Co., Inc., at GMTI’s datacenters.
