SAXOTECH’s Web Content Management System will power high-traffic movie review site
SAXOTECH, a recognized leader in providing content management and online production systems for media companies, is pleased to announce that Roger Ebert LLC, in cooperation with the Chicago Sun-Times has signed a contract to implement the Publicus Online Publishing System (Ed. note - currently called SAXOTECH Online) for the popular Roger Ebert movie Web site. The site is operated by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Publicus will be used to publish Roger Ebert’s Web site, which includes full-length movie reviews, Roger Ebert’s Little Movie Glossary, new release listings, box office data, and more. The site receives significant page view traffic.

“We are excited about working with SAXoTECH to install Publicus as the Web content management tool for the Roger Ebert site,” said John Cary, Vice President of New Media at the Chicago Sun-Times. “Roger Ebert has been on the cutting edge of Internet-delivered content, and Publicus allows us to continue with Roger’s forward-looking vision.”

The Sun-Times’ contract includes the Publicus Base System, as well as the following add-on modules:

  • Security Component:Captures user registration information and provides a way to restrict access to content based on registration and/or paid subscriptions
  • Guides Component:Will be used by the Roger Ebert site to create a categorized, searchable database of movie reviews
  • Multi-Channel Component:Automatically publishes editorial content in a variety of electronic formats, such as email newsletters, and wireless phone and handheld computer

Publicus will be integrated with the Sun-Times’ editorial front-end system.

“Publicus will allow Roger Ebert to expand his site’s content and functionality, without requiring him, or the Chicago Sun-Times, to expand their New Media technical staff,” said Mark Prokosch, President of SAXOTECH, Inc. “This will be our most high-profile Publicus customer to date, and we are thrilled that we’ll be able to demonstrate our system’s abilities with such a well respected content provider.”

The contract includes training, consulting services, support and software maintenance. SAXOTECH will host and manage Roger Ebert’s site at the company’s datacenter in northern Virginia.

The implementation process has already begun. The Roger Ebert site is expected to go live with Publicus in early 2004.
